Layers of vision - Poem by Bianca Raffaella
‘The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision’ Helen Keller.
Those with full site can look upon details, light and dark interiors and can see vast distances.
For those with sight loss, flickering shadows and diffused colours blur together merging shapes and objects. till they become lost, out of focus and unrecognisable.
The strength of touch and hearing takes over, becoming a guide and light for those who are unable to see and identify with their surroundings.
Every person with sight loss learns to adapt, responding to their world as they recognise it. Often leaving behind a tactile message and a unique handwriting.
Those who are visually impaired influence and inspire the visual arts, by challenging the traditional experiences within the gallery space.
Tactility helps educate those who simply rely on sight.
Those with sight loss, impart both their intuitive responses and realities into their creative stories.
They share their perspectives and journeys with the world.
Loss becomes a gain.
Those who question as they learn to adapt their painting, sewing, sculpting, and drawing with touch, Inform; those who question their abilities.
Those with visual impairments breakdown invisible walls by bringing art closer
For they are visionaries
